A Dhaka court yesterday (Monday) rejected the bail petitions of BNP leader and former lawmaker Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia in nine cases filed in connection with the alleged arson attack and sabotage during the BNP-led 20 party alliance’s countrywide shutdown and blockade this year.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka Md Quamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after hearing the submission of Papia’s lawyer Iqbal Hossain on Monday afternoon.
On June 16, three separate courts under the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of
Dhaka sent Asifa Ashrafi Papia, who is also a National Executive Committee member of BNP, to jail in the cases. Of the cases, five were filed with Paltan Police Station, three with Mirpur and the remaining one was filed with Lalbagh Police Station.
Earlier, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to Papia for four weeks in all the cases and she surrendered to the courts on June 16 after the anticipatory bail ended.
