Bail hearing of Mirza Abbas adjourned

The High Court (HC) has adjourned the hearing on a bail petition of Mirza Abbas, BNP-backed mayoral candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation polls, for a week. Now, the hearing in two arson attack cases against him will be held next Monday, said the defence lawyers of the Dhaka city unit BNP convener. A lone HC bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus passed the order on Monday morning in response to a time petition of Mirza Abbas` lawyers. Earlier on Sunday, the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha appointed the new lone bench to settle the split order on Mirza Abbas` bail. On Monday`s hearing Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Moudud Ahmed and AJ Mohammad Ali moved on behalf of Abbas while Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah moved for state. On April 15, a HC bench of Justice Qaumrul Islam Siddque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore passed the split order in the two cases. The two cases, one was filed with Paltan Police Station on December 29 last year and another case was filed on January 4 this year on charges of vandalising and setting fire to vehicles with Motijheel Police Station.—risingbd.com
