Two AL leaders arrested at Sharankhola
Two local AL leaders were arrested along with 10 kgs venison by the police of Sharankhola PS from in front of Bepari Bari in the village Uttar Bakaulta under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday night. The arrestees are Md. Zafar Talukdar (50), Joint Secretary , Southkhali Union Awami League and Shamsul Islam Ripon, President of a ward Awami League of the same Union.
Md. Kabirul Islam, OC of Sharankhola PS told, acting on secret information that two persons named Zafar and Ripon carrying venison with a gunny bag were going from Bakultala village, adjacent to Sundarban forest to Tafalbari bazar a police squad led by SI Abul Bashar rushed to there, lied in ambush (there) and challenged 3 persons when they were going by a motor cycle. Then police chased them and arrested Zafar and Ripon along with 10 kgs venison contained in a gunny bag. But motor cyclist Maksud managed to escape. In this connection a case was registered with the PS against those three under Wild Animal Preservation Act. The arrestees were sent to the court at Bagerhat. On the other hand, coastguards of the Western Zone deployed Mongla issued a press release satiating that on Saturday at night a contingent of the coastguards raided Mirgamari canal area under Chandpai forest range in the Eastern Zone of Sundarban forest (in Bagerhat district). But sensing the appearance of the coastguards poachers fled away in the deep forest leaving a small boat there. Then the coastguards seized the boat, searched it and recovered a gunny bag contained 40 kgs venison and 16 CFT cut band Sundari wood.
Two tragic deaths
A young man named Sirajul Islam Siraj (25) met his tragic end in the village Khudra Chaksree within Baintala Union Parishad under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat when he was electrocuted there on Thursday.
Locals said , on the day while unfortunate Siraj was tried to start an electric motor of a pumping machine, some how, he touched a live electric wire without his knowledge. Consequently, no sooner had the motor stared than he was electrocuted He was the son of one Sona Mia of village Mogra under Sadar Upazila in the same district. Another report states that an extremely poor wood trader and son of one late Akkas Ali Shaikh of village Ghanshyampur under Fakirhat Upazila in the district also met his tragic end when a cut tree fell on his head. It is reported that on Sunday last after purchasing a tree while the ill-fated wood trader was cutting it, but all on a sudden the same fell on his head resulting him fatally injured. After fighting with death for long 4 days the wood trader succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday while he was undergoing treatment.
70th founding anniv of BCL observed
The 70th founding anniversary of Bangladessh Chhatra League was celebrated in Bagerhat district town in a befitting manner on Thursday. The day’s programme started in the morning with the hoisting of national and party flag in its Rail Road Badal Chattar temporary office premises and placing floral wreaths on the portrait the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujibur Rahman. It was followed by a colourful rally that paraded the main roads of the district town. It was participated among others by Khan Habibur Rahman, Mayor of Bagerhat Pourashava, Shaikh Aktaruzzaman Baschu, President of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Awami League, Sardar Nasi Uddin, Convener of Bagerhat district Jubo League, Mir Joysi Ashrafi James, a Bagerhat Jubo League leader, Faruk Talukdar, Khan Abu Bakr Siddique, General Secretary of Bagerhat district Sramik League, Shaikh Bashirul Islam, President of Bagerhat Poura Awami League, Ibne Mizan Hiru, General Secretary, Md. Monir Hossain, President of Bagerhat district Chatra League, Osan Sardar, General Secretary, Bagerhat district Chatra League, Rafikul Islam Raj, Vice-President, Yasir Arfat Noman, President of P C. College Unit of Chhatra League and VP, PC College Chatra Sangsad, Sujit Haldar, a Chhatra League leader, Zakaria Mahmud Apu, Risatul Islam Arin, Foisal Hossain, Naim Hawladar and Ujwal Saha, President of Bagerhat Poura Chhatra League. The day’s programme was ended with the cutting of a 70 pound weighing cake ceremonially at 2 pm.
