Dwelling house gutted
Following a murder in the village Jewdhara within Nishabaria union under Morrelganj Upazila in the district some alleged miscreants set fir on the dwelling house of Abdul Hamid, a retired schoolteacher of the village on Saturday in the morning. As a result, properties worth Tk. 10 lakh were gutted.It is learnt from a reliable source that one Mozammel Haq of the village was killed on September 3, 2014. Taking the opportunity of the murder case a section of people is trying to gain benefits. Members of about 20 families of the village left their houses and they are now hiding hither and thither to avoid the harassment.
Ijtema of Tablig Jamat concludes
A 3-day Ijtema of Tablig Jamat that began in the foot-ball ground local Govt. High School (Boys) on Thursday in the morning was concluded on Saturday through Akheri Monjat. The Akheri Monajat was led by Mawlana Mohammad Hossain of Kakrail Mosque, Dhaka. Thousand of Muslims, irrespective of ages and sexes who joined the Monajat sought the divine blessing for the peace, prosperity and unity of the Muslim Ummah and as well as for the salvation of the Muslims in the next world.
2 drug traders arrested
Bagerhat police arrested two professional drug traders along with Yaba tablets and heroin from two separate places on Tuesday. They are Rubel Shaikh (25), son of one Haybat Shaikh of village Koramara within Bisnupur union under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila and Babu Shaikh (20), son of one Hossain Ali of village Ronbijoypur under the same Upazila. Source added a police contingent led by Asad, TSI of Basabari Sadar police outpost, raided Sarai area near Meerabari, a sfae house of drug of the town on Tuesday in the afar noon and arrested Babu Shaikh along with 40 Yaba tablets from the staff quarters area.
Upazila secondary education officer arrested
Selim Talukdar (50), Upazila Secondary Education Officer of Kachua in the district was arrested by the police on Wednesday and sent him to jail hajat through the court in connection with a case lodged by his wife Jahanara Begum with Hajaribag PS, Dhaka on October 11 against him under Women & Children Oppression Act. The education officer is the son of one late Saijuddin Talukdar of village Jhatra under Dumki Upazila in Patuakhali district. He used to live in a house of 30/3 Maneshwar Road of Hajaribag area in Dhaka city with his wife and children. At present he is working as Kachua Upazila Secondary Education Officer in Bagerhat district..
