Three dwelling houses gutted

Two adjacent dwelling houses-one belonging to (one) Arup Mandol Manik and another belonging to (one) Nipuna Mondol of village Hurka within Hurka Union under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district were completely gutted when a fire broke out in the houses at Saturday mid night, according to a report received here. The loss of fire was estimated at Tk 5 lakh. The members of the affected families and the locals told, the real cause of the fire could not be ascertained. But it is guessed that the fire, perhaps, originated from an electricity short circuit took place in one of the houses at the night at about 11-30 pm when all the inmates of the houses fell asleep. But when the fire engulfed both the houses Nipuna Mandol woke up, found the fire and came out of the house after breaking open its door and cried out for help. But both houses were completely gutted with their all belongings including all the academic certificates (from SSC to Master Degree) of Ramkrisna Mandol, son of Manik Mondol before the arrival of the neighbouring people and the villagers at the place of occurrence. Being informed of the matter Begum Habibun-Nahar, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-3 (Rampal and Mongla Upazilas) and State Minister for Forest, Environment and Climates affair donated two bundles of CI sheets, cash Tk.6 thousand and 9 pieces of blankets to each of the fire affected family on immediate basis.
Another reports adds: A dwelling house belonging to Abdul Jalil, an poor easy-bike puller of village Nalbunia under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district was completely gutted when it caught fire recently . It is learnt from the locals that at the night Abdul Jalil and all other members of his family were absent from the house and it was under lock and key. At nigh on seeing the flame of fire some a number of neighbouring people and villagers rushed to the place of occurrence and tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. By this time on information, a fire a service unit of Sharankhola rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for one hour with the help of the locals. But in spite of that the dwelling house with its all belonging were burnt to ashes. But the loss and cause of the fire yet be ascertained.

Condolence meeting held

A Doa Mahfil and a meeting was held to condole the death of Abdul Kayum Khan, Secretary General of the central committee of the Association, a former Additional Secretary of Bangladesh Government and former 2nd officer of Bagerhat (when it was a sub-division) who died in Dhaka recently organised by Bagerhat District Unit of Bangladesh Retired Govt. Employees’ Welfare Association at local office with its President Gazi Motiar Rahman in the chair .The condolence meeting was addressed among others by Prof. Mozaffar Hossain, former President of the Bagerhat unit, Adv. Md. Mozaffor Hossain, President of Bagerhat Press Club, Prof. Khan Saleh Ahmed, former President of Bagerhat unit, Al-haj Abdul Baki Talukdar, General Secretary of Bagerhat Press Club, Md. Shaidullah, General Secretary of Bagerhat unit and members of the unit Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Md. Humayun Kabir, Nirmal Kanti Som, Md. Abul Bashar Khan, Md. Mohor Ali and Dihidar Abul Kalam Azad.  

No confidence motion brought against UP Chairman

A no-confidence motion was brought against Fakir Faham Uddin, Chairman of Khanpur Union Parishad under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district by 11 UP members of the union out of 12 (members) recently on the charge of gross irregularities and corruptions. At the same time the revolted UP members submitted a written complaint to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Bagerhat stating the irregularities and corruptions of the UP Chairman and urging him (UNO) to take necessary action against the UP Chairman. When contacted Tanzilur Rahman, UNO of Bagerhat Sadar admitted the fact to the newsmen and told necessary action will be taken against the concerned UP Chairman if the allegations are found correct after the completion of an investigation into the matter.
