4 extremists get life-term for killing village police

SM Solaiman, District and Session Judge of Bagerhat, in a judgment delivered on Saturday convicted 4 members of outlawed Purbo Bangla Communist Party and sentenced the to be hanged till their death on the charge of killing a village police of Fakirhat Upazila in the district in absentia of the convicted persons.. They are :Shamim Shaikh, son of one Abul Shaikh of village Mulghar under Fakirhat Upazila, Anwar Shaikh alias Chute, son of one Osman Shaikha of the sane of the same village, Romi Sardar, son of one Abdul Ali Sardar of village Kagdanga and Hobi Molla, son of one Harun Molla of village Sonakhali under the same Upazila. They all were the active members of Purbo Bangla Communist Party (M.L. Jnajudha).
Indian cloths worth Tk 74.29 lakh recovered
Coast Guards of the Eastern Zone recovered huge quantity of shirting cloths from the Rupsa bridge area on Friday night . Lt. Commander, Operation Officer of the Coast Guards said that acting on a secret information a contingent of the Coast Guards who were staying near at Rupsa raided the toll plaza area of Rupsa Bridge and found that a number of bags contained with something were being unloaded from a trawler on the eastern bank of the river (Rupsa) .Then the Coast Guards challenged the trawler but it fled away . Then the members of the Coast Guards rushed to the spot and recovered 21 bags contained 71 bundles of shirting clothes, smuggled from India. The market price of them is Tk.74,29 lakh. The seized goods were handed over to the concerned authorities for taking legal action.

distribution ceremony held
The annual sports and cultural competition cum prize distribution of the local Agrapathic Pre-cadet School was held in the school premises on Saturday. After the competition prizes were distributed among the best performers at a function held in the school premises with educationist Prof. Mozaffar Hossain in the chair. Prof. Sukantha Kumar Mandol. Principal of Bagerhat Govt. P.C College was present as the chief guest.and distributed the prizes among the best competitors. Md. Abu Hanif, Superintendent of Bagerhat Primary Training Institute, Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, former president of Bagerhat Press Cluib, Zillul Karim, district Sports Officer of Bagerhat and freedom fighter Nasir Khan were also present at the function. Md. Delwar Hossain, Principal of the Scholl conducted the function.
6 thatched houses gutted
Some 6 thatched houses were gutted when a fire broke out in Kalbari, a slum area of Nagerhabazar in the district town of Bagerhat on Thursday . Locals said that on the day the fire originated from a burning oven of a kitchen spread to its adjacent houses and within moments it went out of control. The local people tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. Boning informed of the matter a fire brigade unit of Bagerhat rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
