Heap of straws gutted in Jatrapur
A big heap of straws, used in betel-leaf gardens was gutted when it caught fire at the local crematory ghat near Jatrapur bazar under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday morning. Being informed of the matter a fire service unit rushed to the spot from Bagerhat district headquarters and brought the fire under control with the help of local people after a long fighting for more than one and half an hours. Haidar Mallik, the owner of the heap of straws told, some one set the fire on it with a pre planned way. The loss of fire is estimated at more than Tk.6 lakh.

Woman commits suicide  
Sahida Begum (60), wife of one Solaiman Shaikh of village Pdmanagar within Gopalpur Union Parishad under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district committed suicide by taking poison on Friday morning. It is reported that she had been suffering from various acute diseases. In the morning she took something poisonous in order to get relief from the diseases without the knowledge of other inmates of the house and fell seriously ill. She was rushed to Kachua Upazila Health Complex where she expired on the same day when her stomach was being washed by the physicians.

6 drug traders, drug addicted persons convicted  
 A mobile court convicted 6 persons and sentenced the to suffer simple imprisonment for 5 days on the charge of selling and dirking drugs in Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday. On the other hand, one person was sent to the court on the same day in connection with a regular drug (Yaba) case.
Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Officer-in-charge of Mongla told, as a part of country wide anti drug drive police of Mongla PS raided the different places of the Upazila and arrested 6 drug traders and drug addicted persons and brought them before a mobile court led by Md. Rabiul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate of Mongla on Friday and the learned Magistrate awarded them the aforesaid punishment as they admitted their guilts.

Iftar party, Doa Mahfil held
Under the auspices of Bagerhat district branch of Bangladesh Chemists & Druggists’ Association an Iftar party cum Doa Mahfil was held in the local Hotel Castle Ashara on Thursday evening. On the occasion a discussion was held with Abonish Chandra Chakrabarty (Sona), President of the organization in the chair. Abdul Baki Talukdar, General Secretary of Bagerhat Press Club, Mir Fazle Doubleu, a cultural personality, Faruque Sardar, president of Bagerhat Chambers of Commerce and Industries, ASM Kamruzzaman Kamal, Vice-president of the organization, Manik Roy Chowdhury, Shib Das and some others took part in the discussion. On the occasion a Doa Mahfil was also held in which special prayer was offered for peace, harmony, integrity, tranquility and progress of the country. It was attended by the members of the organization and the elites of the district town. The Iftar party was conducted by Molla Mukul Hossain, secretary of the organisation.
