27 jungle pirates surrendered
Some 27 jungle pirates belonging to 3 notorious gangs of jungle pirates of Sundarban forest ceremonially surrendered to the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at a function held in the local Swadhinata Udyan of Bagerhat district town on Sunday afternoon along with 28 fire arms and 1,081 rounds of live ammunitions with the promise to give up piracy for good and return to the normal life. Three gangs of jungle pirates are Dawn Bahini led by Md Mehedi Hasan (32), Choto Jahangir Bahini led by Md. Jahangir Alam (37) and Choto Suman Bahin led by Md. Suman Hawladar (24). All the jungle pirates hail from the different places of Bagerhat, Khulna and Satkhira districts. On the occasion a function was held there with Khondokar Rafiqul Islam, Commanding Officer of RAB-6 in the chair where the Home Minister said as the chief guest that the Government was determined to eradicate militancy and piracy from the country for good. Benzir Ahmed, DG, RAB disclosed in the function, as many as 217 jungle pirates belonging to 20 gangs of jungle pirates of Sundarban forest have so far surrendered to the law enforcing agencies along with 346 fire arms and 17,869 rounds of live ammunitions. The Home Minister ceremonially handed over Tk.20 thousand and a mobile set to each of 38 members of jungle pirates who ceremonially surrendered to the Minister on January 16 as Government grant.
SSC examinee rescued after 15- hr of abduction
 An SSC examinee named FM Sakib Saikat Babu, son of one Fakir Alauddin of village Pachla under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district who was kidnapped from Mulghar area under Fakirhat Upazila on Sunday was recovered by the police from a house of village Sayedmahalla under the Upazila after long 15 hours. Police said , on the day the boy was returning home by a motor cycle from Sajua Computer of Fakirhat Upazila town. But on request he went to Mulghar area to have a lift one of his friends and when he reached the place of occurrence 2 unidentified youths stopped his motor cycle, spread something liquid seductive on his face and kidnapped him very tactfully. Then they took him to house belonging to one Kazi Delwar of the village Sayedmahalla, confined him in a room, beat him severely and demanded a sum of Tk.30 lakh to his father as ransom for his release through a mobile phone. Then the father of the boy informed the police of the local Model PS of the matter. Police of the PS raided Sayedmahalla village and recovered the by from the house after long 15 hours. But the kidnappers managed to escape along with the motor cycle. In this connection a case was lodged with the local PS.
Founding anniv of Bangla Vision observed
The 13th founding anniversary of Bangla Vision was celebrated in Bagerhat district town in a befitting manner on Sunday. On the occasion, a colourful rally was brought out . It was attended by the local journalists and the elite. After the end of the rally a discussion was held in the Press Club Auditorium with its President Ahad Uddin Haidar in the chair. Prof. Molla Masudul Haq, local correspondent of the TV channel explained the need and importance of holding such a function in his addressing of welcome. It was addressed by Al-haj Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and Al-haj Adv Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat Constituence-2, Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat as the chief guest and special guests respectively. It was also addressed by Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Bagerhat district based correspondent of The New Nation.
Young man killed by
 miscreants in Kachua
 A young man named Shaheen Shaikh (22), son of one Gaffar Shaikh of village Sammankathi within Maghia Union under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district was chopped to death by some unknown miscreants in the village at Saturday night, according to a report received here. In this connection police of Kachua PS arrested one Zillur Rahman (54) from the village suspecting his involvement in the murder. It is learnt from Abdul Halim Shaikh, paternal uncle of the deceased that at the night (at 8 pm) his nephew Shaheen was returning home by a van rickshaw from a village market of the adjacent Andhrmanik Bazar and when the van reached near Sammankathi KG school some miscreants stopped the van and began to chop him left and right and at one stage they left him there seriously injured.
