Parliament on Sunday passed a bill, titled ‘Bangladesh Atomic Energy Control (Amendment) Bill, 2014, aiming to relax the qualifications to become chairman and members of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Control Authority.
State Minister for Science and Information & Communication Technology Architect Yeafesh Osman moved the Bill that was passed by voice vote.
The bill states that the chairman and the members of the Authority will be appointed from the individuals who have adequate qualification and experience about nuclear energy management.
It says one member will be appointed from those who have qualification and experience about power generation and transmission.
Under the current law, the chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Control Authority must be graduate or postgraduate of physics or applied physics, chemistry or applied chemistry, mechanical engineering or nuclear engineering, but the higher degree holder will get the priority.
The chairman has to have minimum 15 years of experience of practical work in nuclear security and 10 years’ experience of practical work in such controlling works.
