Shakhawat Hossain Badsha from daily Inquilab and Elias Hossain from Independent Television, were elected President and General Secretary respectively of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) on Sunday.
Election Commissioner and Editor of Samakal Golam Sarwar announced the result at 7pm. The voting started around 9am and continued till 5:00pm.
Shakhawat Hossain Badsha bagged 366 votes while his nearest rival Jamal Uddin polled 337 votes.
Elias Hossain got 432 votes while his nearest Rakib Hasnat Sumon of BBC got 346 votes.
The other office-bearers are: Vice-President Rafiqul Islam Azad (647), Joint Secretary Ferdous Mobaraque(596), Finance Secretary Ashraful Islam elected uncontested, Organising Secretary Riaz Chowdhury (663) and Publishing Secretary Moin Uddin (633).
The executive members are Shahnaz Sharmin, Sajida Islam Parul, Osman Gani Babul, Faraque Khan, Habibur Rahman, Harlal Ray Sagar and Kamal Uddin Sumon.
