UNB, Sherpur :
A baby elephant got trapped after falling inside a 25 feet deep ditch in Dudhnoi bordering area of Jhenigati upazila early Monday.
Locals said the 3to4-year-old baby elephant fell down into the ditch when its herd from the hill area swooped on the village around 3am. Seeing the elephant cub inside the ditch in the morning, local people informed the matter to Elephant Response Team of the Forest Department.
On information, members of the Elephant Response Team rushed in and tried to rescue the young elephant.
Mohammad Ashraful Alam, an official of Forest Department, said, “We are trying to dig a drain near the hill so that the baby elephant can come out through it and through this process it could be saved alive.” The herd of elephants was seen on the hill, one and a half kilometers away from the spot.
