UNB, Dhaka :
President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Sunday demanded death as the punishment for raping minors.
The former president came up with this demand while exchanging Eid greetings with party leaders and activists at its office on Sunday, said a press release.
“Women and children are being tortured, rape is happening continuously. If strong move is not taken immediately to stop the crime the situation will not change,” he said.
Terming the present law for rape as ‘weak’, B Chowdhury stressed the need for enacting tough law keeping the provision of death penalty for child rape and jail term unto death for raping others.
He urged everyone to become vocal against the crime.
Acid crimes ended after declaring death as its punishment, he said adding, “I believe if death penalty is announced as the punishment for child rape then the crime will be stopped.”
Party’s secretary general Major(Rtd) Abdul Manna, Engineer Mohammad Yusuf, Aziz Akhand, Rafikul Islam, Md Shah Alalm, Nabab Bahadur Abul Bashar were, among others, present.
