UNB, Dhaka :Hailing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his role in having the LBA bill passed by Indian parliament, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Friday hoped that the long-standing Farakka problem will also be resolved during his upcoming Bangladesh tour.”Modi is trying to resolve the unsettled issues between Bangladesh and India. The enclave problem has recently been solved, bringing an end to the prolonged sufferings of many people…we thank him for that,” he said.Addressing a discussion, he suggested the government keep Farakka on top of agenda for discussion during the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Bangladesh. He also hoped the Farakka problem will be resolved as Modi is coming to Bangladesh with an open mind. Bhasani Anusari Parishad arranged the programme, titled ‘The historical Farakka long march of Majlum Jananeta Moulana Bashani’ at the Jatiya Press Club.B Chowdhury, also a former president, criticised the government for its inaction to rescue Bangladeshis stranded at sea after being victims to human traffickers.”We’ve heard around 10,000 are drifting on the sea on migrant boats falling into the trap of human trafficking rings. How many ministers have gone to Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia? How many helicopters and navy ships have been sent to the spot to rescue them? If it didn’ t happen it’s a matter of shame and concern,” he said. The BDB leader also said Bangladesh government is least bothered about the issue though various countries are coming forward to help the people got stranded at the sea.He also said that the Expatriate Welfare Minister, the Health Minister and the Foreign Minister should have gone to those countries to resolve the crisis as soon as possible. The BDB chief termed the April 28-city polls terrible and warned that the consequences will not be good if the same elections are held in the future, too.
