Azad, Riaz elected DRU President, GS

Rafiqul Islam Azad and Riaz Chowdhury have been elected President and General Secretary of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) respectively for next one year.
The annual election was held at the DRU office at Segunbagicha from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday.
Rafiqul Islam Azad, Special Correspondent of The Independent bagged 550 votes while his close contestant got 489 votes.
Riaz Chowdhury, chief Reporters of Asianmail24.com got 567 votes and his nearest contender Nurul Islam Hasib, former Senior Reporter of bdnews24.com, got 565 votes. Hasib was defeated by only two votes.
Nazrul Kabir has been elected Vice-President bagging 488 votes and his nearest rival Rashedul Haque, Chief Reporter of Dainik Dinkal got 441 votes.
Helemul Alam Biplab, Senior Reporter of The Daily Star, has been elected Joint General Secretary bagging the highest number of 851 votes, while his contender Mehdi Azaf Masum got 430 votes.
Ziaul Haque Sabuj, Senior Reporter of Bangla Vision, has been elected uncontested Finance Secretary.
Habibur Rahman, Senior Reporter of Daily Somoyer Alo, has been elected Organising Secretary bagging 648 votes, his lone contender Mainul Islam Sohel, Senior Reporter of Daily Inqilab, got 626 votes.
Zafar Iqbal from Daily Samgram has been elected Office Secretary, Rita Nahar- Women Affairs Secretary (unopposed), Maidur Rahman Rubel- Publicity and Publication Secretary, Sakhawat Hossain Suman- Training and Research Secretary, Mojibur Rahman- Sports Secretary, Mizan Chowdhury- Cultural Secretary, MH Akhter (Sangram)- Entertainment Secretary (unopposed) and Khalid Saifullah (Nayadiganta)- Welfare Secretary (unopposed).
The Executive Committee Members are: Mainul Ahsan (ATN Bangla), SM Mizan (Bhorer Kagoj), Ahmed Mushfika Nazneen (Ekushey TV), Kamruzzaman Bablu (The New Nation), Imran Majumdar (Ajkaler Khobor), Murad Hossain (Jago News24.com) and Sayeed Abdul Malik (Daily Inqilab).
