An awareness programme on snake was held at seminar room of Jahir Raihan Auditorium on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus in Savar on Thursday.
JU Zoology Department organised the discussion while Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university (academic) Professor Abul Hossain addressed it as the chief guest, said a JU press release.
Chairman of the department Professor Manwar Hossain Tuhin presided over the programme that was addressed by Biological Sciences Faculty Dean Professor Abdul Jabber Hawlader and Zoology department Professor Md Mustafa Feroz as special guests.
Addressing the programme, Professor Abul Hossain underscored the need for protecting biodiversity from extinction, including snake.
JU Zoology department Professor Kamrul Hasan presented a key note paper in the programme.
In his paper, Professor Kamrul said a total of 11 species of snake out of 76 are found on JU campus. Of them only two species are venomous, he added.
