Creating public awareness, early preparedness, training and emergency response are crucial for reducing risks of disasters and its better management to minimise the loss of human lives.
Officials and experts said this on Tuesday at a post-rally discussion arranged by Rangpur Fire Service and Rangpur Civil Defense Station (FSCDS) on its office premises to conclude observance of the Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) Week-2019 in the city.
Rangpur FSCDS brought the rally on the streets from its office to the Public Library ground and came back to its office premises.
Officials of the district administration, fire service and civil defense personnel of Rangpur FSCDS and different voluntary originations, rovers, scouts and civil society members participated in the rally.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan attended the discussion as the chief guest with Acting Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director of FSCD Ohidul Islam inthe chair.
Senior Station Officer of Rangpur FSCDS Khurshid Alam and its Mobilising Officer Saifur Islam spoke.
The speakers laid importance on creating mass awareness about natural disasters among common people, providing them training and adopting early preparedness at community levels to reduce risks of disasters.
They said the government has taken comprehensive steps to reduce risks of disasters by disseminating early information, warnings and providing trainings and emergency response management systems.
Ohidul Islam discussed steps taken by the government to enhance capacity and skills of fire service and civil defense personnel for quickly mitigating disasters.
The chief guest called upon firefighters and volunteers to carry out their noble duties sincerely ensuring best use of their expertise to reduce loss of human lives and properties during disasters.
“Creating public awareness and early preparedness, innovation and adoption of newer technologies and equipment are vital to ensure emergency response and management during disasters to reduce loss of human lives,” he said.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) Week-2019 ended in the district on Tuesday with a call to create mass awareness to prevent fire incidents and other disasters.
Marking the week, FSCD office here chalked out elaborate programmes included leaflet distribution, pasting posters, discussion meeting, vehicle rally in the district town, inspection of fire extinguishing equipment, volunteers gathering, certificate distribution, mock drill display and arrangement of cultural function.
On Tuesday afternoon, a concluding ceremony was also held on the office premises of the town here with station officer Bakhtiar Uddin in the chair while deputy assistant director Amirul Islam Sarker addressed the function as the chief guest.
Station officer of Palashbair upazila FSCD office and team leader Abu Taher spoke at the function, among others.
Earlier, deputy commissioner Abdul Matin formally inaugurated the FSCD Week-2019 on Wednesday last as the chief guest and police super Towhidul Islam was present at the event as the special guest.
