State Minister for Labour and Employment M. Mujibul Haq called for awareness among workers about their responsibilities and rights.
“A nice work environment will be created if the workers’ awareness about their responsibilities increases and the owners become conscious,” he said this on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the annual general meeting and conference of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) in the city.
The state minister said increasing production in factories and mutual trust and confidence in worker-owner relations are important.
“The government is working to improve worker-owner relations,” he said and hoped that this will expedite industrialization in the country.
The state minister said the government is sincere to make a law for the protection of domestic workers. He appreciated the role BILS and said the government will its help to eliminate hazardous child labour in the country.
Held at BIAM auditorium, the function was presided over by BILS Chairman Habibur Rahman Siraj, said an official release.
International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Director Sri Nibash B Reddi, Denmark Embassy Deputy Chief Mr. Hogar, Solidarity Centre Country Programme Director Alenge Susan and German agency FS Residence Representative Fransisca Corn also spoke on the occasion.
BILS Secretary General Nazrul Islam Khan delivered the address of welcome while BILS Secretary Dr. Wazedul Islam Khan presented a condolence proposal.
BILS Vice-Chairman Shirin Akhtar, MP, moderated the function.
