5214 females die every year: Awareness must to prevent cervical cancer

Speakers of a round table discussion have stressed on awareness to prevent cervical cancer.
They said, awareness is very important to prevent cervical cancer.
The discussion meeting was held on Dhaka Reporters’ Unity auditorium on Saturday as part of observing the cervical cancer awareness day.
The theme of the day of this year is, ‘Give your daughter HPV vaccine.’
A road march titled ‘March for mother’ from Shahbagh to Uttara House Building will be organised on January 31 to create awareness in this regard.
The Saturday’s discussion programme was also organised by the organisation named ‘March for mother’. The speakers firstly stressed on giving the Human Papilomo Virus (HPV) vaccine to every girl to prevent the cancer. Secondly they have given importance on screening women aged over 30 regularly to prevent the disease.
They said that about 8,068 women are attacked by cervical cancer every year in Bangladesh, while 5214 patients die. Discussants also stressed on to stop early marriage from the society.
Professor Dr. Md. Habibullah Talukdar Raskeen of National Cancer Research Institute, Professor Shuvagoto Chowdhury, Professor Sabera Khatun and Professor Swapan Bandopaddhaya, among others, were present in the programme.
The speakers said that the HPV vaccine is very vital to eliminate the disease from our country. But the crisis of the vaccine stands against the mission.
They said, one of the two importers has stopped their activities in Bangladesh. Another company suspended import of the vaccine for long.
In these circumstances, the government should come forward.
They said that women needs to screen themselves regularly as there are about 400 via centers in the country.
