House of Md. Delwar Hossain, President of Raripara Union Parishad Awami League under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district was attacked, ransacked and set on fire by Mehedi Hasan Babu, President of Jubo League of the same Union Parishad and his associates on Monday twice- in the evening and at mid night, according to a delayed report received here.
The incident took place in the village Bhandarkot. As a result, Awami League president Md. Delwar Hossain (65), his wife Rumicha Begum (58), pregnant daughter-in-law Kakali Begum (27) and nephew Saiful Islam (48) were injured. The injured persons were recovered from there and were admitted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for heir treatment. Police are trying their best to arrest those involved in the incident.
The Awami League president of Raripara Union told, Mehedi Hasan Babu, president of Jubo League of the same Union Parishad demanded him a sum of Tk.5 Lakh. But as I did not pay him the money Babu and some of his associated attacked my house on Monday evening. Not only that but also they once again attacked my house at mid night and beat all the inmates of my house including myself. At one stage they (terrorists) set fire on the heaps of paddy and looted valuables including cash Taka and gold ornaments. We want justice of this heinous incident committed by Mehedi Hasan Babu and his associates. On the other hand, the local newsmen tried to contact Mehedi Hasan Babu; but he was not available. On the other hand, Badsha, one of his associates of Babu told the newsmen, Delwar Hossain owes a handicapped man an amount of money. We wanted him that money. But he (Delwar) did not refund the money. On the contrary his son attacked us.
Mir Shafin Mahmud, Additional Police Super of Bagerhat told, an altercation was taken place between Delwar Hossain, President of Raripara UP Awami League and Mehedi Hasan Baub, President of Jubo League of the same Union Parishad on Monday evening over the recovery of the sale proceed (money) of a plot of land belonging to a third party. Later in the mid nigh the associates of Mehedi Hasan Babu once again attacked the house of Delwar Hossain and set fire. As a result, some of the inmates of the house were injured. But Delwar Hossain did not lodge any complaint with the concerned PS till the writing of this report. He added, police are trying to arrest Mehedi Hasan Babu and others involved in the matter.
