On the occasion of 65th Founding Anniversary of Awami League, the television channel 71 held a special discussion on Awami League’s great achievements and its glorious history last evening. The discussants were Chairman of University Grants Commission A.K Azad Chowdhury, Barrister Mainul Hosein and Syed Abul Muksud. It was hosted by Samia Zaman.
Barrister Mainul recalled the long and painful struggling history of Awami League and its great leaders like Moulana Bhasani and Mr. HS Suhrawardy who guided the party as a democratic force for the people against Muslim League’s undemocratic and unjust rule. He also quoted from Bangabandhu’s unfinished auto-biography to show how decent and liberal Awami League leadership used to be.
Awami League from the beginning wanted to see that Pakistan is governed accepting that there would be two units in Pakistan as enunciated in the Lahore Resolution and democracy as the way of governing the country.
Insisting that the greatness and glory of Awami League as a democratic party must be upheld, Barrister Hosein emphasized that he did not want Awami League should face the same fate as that of Muslim League though Pakistan was achieved under the leadership of Muslim League.
He added to say that a political party is not judged as the contractors and engineers by how many roads and bridges are built, but by its political philosophy and integrity of its leaders.
