Speakers at a seminar said the average expenditure of the government projects increased by 42 per cent in the last five years.
During the period, average duration of those projects also increased by three years while annual implementation rate was 73 per cent, they added.
Planning Commission and JICA jointly organized the seminar titled “Strengthening Public Investment Management System (SPIMS)” at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC). Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal said increasing of expenditure and extension of duration of the government project are not acceptable. “We need Proper management, selection of appropriate project, which could contribute to our economy truly and self motivation for work to get back the invested money.”

Mikio Haetaeda, JICA chief Representative, as the special guest said Bangladesh government should concentrate on implementation quality to achieve the middle income country status. “There is no alternative to enhance skill in the government investment management,” he added.
Planning Commission Joint Chief Sayedul Huq and SPIMS Project team leader Dr Toshiyaso Kato made keynote presentation. Planning Division secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam conducted the seminar.
