Earlier in the morning, the first Namaz-e-Janaza of Mahbubul Haque Shakil was held at Dhaka University central mosque at around 11:00am.
Hundreds of supporters and well wishers attended the Janaza seeking eternal peace of the departed soul.
After the Janaza, the body of Shakil was taken to his ancestral home in Mymensingh.
Meanwhile, a three-member forensic medical team led by Sohel Mahmud, the chief of DMCH Forensic Department, completed the autopsy on Wednesday morning.
The other two members of the team are professor Prodeep Biswas and assistant professor Shafiur Zaman.
“There was no external injury in the body. The reason behind the death can be ascertained after receiving viscera report,” Associate Professor Dr Sohel Mahmud, forensic department head at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police also could not tell the reason behind the death. The Gulshan police, however, picked up seven employees, including manager of the restaurant, for interrogation in connection with the incident.
Shakil, also a former vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), died at a Japanese restaurant in the city’s Gulshan area on Tuesday afternoon.
Sources said that Shakil went to the restaurant on Monday night with two of his friends. The friends left the restaurant after having dinner but he stayed at a room there.
Next day, hearing no sound from him, the employees of the restaurant broke the door open and found him dead at about 1:30 pm.
Meanwhile, a strong rumour spread after his death that Shakil had committed suicide. It was learnt that he posted a status in his facebook timeline on Monday where he mentioned about the death. The Deputy Commissioner of Police [Gulshan Zone] refrained from making any comment over the issues despite repeated attempts last night.
Shakil left behind his lawyer wife, a daughter, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. He was chief executive officer of the Centre for Research and Information [CRI], the research cell of Awami League, formed after the 2001 election.
