BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday alleged that people are passing through a tough time as the current ‘usurper’ government has lost control over everything.
“Democracy is now deported, the rule of law is absent and human rights are being violated at every step. There’s no security of people and their property. Killings, enforced disappearances and assaults on women have become an order of the day. The current usurper government is responsible for it as it has lost control over everything,” she said.
Khaleda came up with the remarks at an iftar party arranged by Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at Ladies Club in the city’s Eskaton area.
The BNP chief further alleged that the ruling party MPs, their family members and leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies have indulged in criminal activities like killing, repressive acts and, plundering public money and grabbing their property and extortion.
“People have got annoyed at the repression and extortion by the ruling party men. The price hike has made their lives miserable, but the government is least bothered about their sufferings. They’re only talking tall talks and resorting to lies. They’re busy realising commission from big projects with greater margins,” she observed.
The BNP chief urged people to pray to the Almighty Allah in this holy month of Ramzan so that He saves people from the grasp of this ‘repressive’ regime.
“This autocratic regime will be ousted through a mass upheaval. A pro-people government will be installed to restore peace and uphold the country’s dignity,” Khaleda told the doctors. She claimed that common people and opposition men are not getting justice from courts as Awami League men have been made judges. “The ruling party men are not being arrested or tried even after killing people.”
Khaleda said, a section of members of police are involved in massive corruption and repressive acts. “They’re now doing business picking up innocent people. Those who don’t give them money as per their demand either they are being killed in crossfire or sent to jail.”
“Once we used to hear the arm of law is long. Now we see the hands of police are longer as they say they have kept this government in office,” she added.
Khaleda regretted that the country’s independence earned at the cost of 30 lakh people’s lives has now become meaningless for the waywardness of the current regime. Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh president Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, DU ex-VC Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Nazrul Islam Khan, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and professors and doctors from different medical colleges and hospitals attended the iftar.
