Gono Forum President and Jatiyo Oikya Prokriya Chief Dr. Kamal Hossain on Sunday said that autocratic government couldn’t stay in power if the people form national unity.
“Men and women of our 18 crore people should form a national unity soon. If our people are united, the autocratic government can’t cling to power any more,” he said while addressing a human chain formed by Jatiyo Oikya Prokriya in front of the National Press Club.
Dr. Kamal said there is no alternative of inclusive polls to change the power in legal way.
He said the people’s unity never failed to attain its goals in the past.
“We will be successful in this time as like the past after forging national unity. Our goal is to hand over the state power to the people who are the real owners of the country,” Dr. Kamal said.
The eminent lawyer said, “When the country goes out from the hands of people it must be plundered by dacoits.”
“You see, thousands of crores of taka have been plundered from banks, where the money goes? There is no investment in the country. No new mills and factories are being established here. All the looting money goes abroad through laundering,” he said.

The senior politician said, “We asked the government to free all political detainees from jail and not to conduct any arrest on political persons until the next national polls, but they are filing hundreds of ghostly cases and arresting huge political leaders and activists across the country.
He said the arresting and filing cases against political persons is a bigger obstacle to hold any fair polls. The other leaders of the programme said they would declare their next course of action after discussing with others.
Gono Foram General Secretary Mustafa Mohsin Montu, a former VP of DUCSU, Sultan Mohammad Monsur, Jatiyo Oikya Prokria leaders Jaglul Haider Afrik, ABM Mojtaba Amin, Nurul Huda Milu Chowdhury, Momena Ahmed Momo, Gano Foram leaders AHM Shafiq Ullah, Mushtaq Ahmed, Saidur Rahman Sayeed, Rafiqul Islam Protik, Nahid Shah Ahmed Badal, NPP’s Secretary General Mustafizur Rahman Mostafa, Labour Party fraction’s President Hamdullah Al-Mehedi, NAP Bhasani’s Golam Mostafa Akhand, Bhasani Foundation’s Siddiqul Islam, Gono Dal’s Golam Maula Chowdhury, Bangladesh Democratic Party’s Shamsul Alam Chowdhury and Islami Oikya Jote leader Shawkat Amin also spoke, among others.
