A passenger of an auto-rickshaw was allegedly hacked to death by its driver centering a dispute over the fare in Maizkhar village of Chandina upazila in Comilla district on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Masum Mia, 24, son of Fazlur Rahman. Masud’s elder brother Masud Alam and his cousin Abu Seyed also received severe injuries.
Driver ‘Sumon’ went on hiding after committing the murder, police said. Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir Uddin Mridha said, “A clash took place between the driver and the passengers for demanding Tk 140 instead of normal fare of Tk 80. At one stage, Sumon attacked the passengers with a sword around 13:30pm.”
Locals recovered the body of Masum in a pool of blood and took the two injured passengers to the Comilla Medical College and Hospital, the police official said.
We are trying to arrest Sumon after filing of a case, the OC said.
The deceased’s body was handed over to family members, he said.
