Alam Sarowar Tito, Kishoreganj :An Auto-rickshaw driver ‘Md. Shamim’, (20), from Shibpur (Joshodal) in Kishoreganj Sadar, was burnt to death on Friday. He used to drive a battery-run three-wheeler. His family claims that local drug addicts killed him because he had dared to stand up against their rowdy behaviour.Additional Police Super Syed Abu Sayem said that the killers would be rounded up.The victim’s uncle, Abdul Karim, said, “Some men of Nindu Mia’s fishery near Shamim’s house had been taking drugs for quite sometime. They had several altercations with Shamim, as he opposed their activities.””Things got to physical clash between them on Wednesday. Then on Thursday evening, Shafiq, Jony, Al Amin and another youth stopped Shamim when he was on his way to home and took him to that fishery.”Karim said the four drug addicts tied up Shamim’s arms and legs and poured petrol on him before setting him on fire.”His body was completely burned before local residents could rescue him after hearing his screams for help,” he added. The relatives rushed Shamim to the Kishoreganj General Hospital first with severe burns.He died around 1am on Friday while being transported to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on doctors’ recommendations, family members said.Duty doctors of Kishoreganj General Hospital said that Shamim had suffered 90 percent burns. On information Police and RAB officers visited the spot. A case was field in this connection on Friday noon with Kishoreganj Model Police Station.
