Autism Awareness Day observed in Joypurhat

The World Autism Awareness Day-2021 was observed in the district today as elsewhere in the world. The theme of this year was ‘Risk mitigation in the post-epidemic world, Opportunities will be expanded at workplaces’.
In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared April 2 as the World Autism Awareness Day to highlight the needs for helping improve the lives of children and adults who suffer from the disorder, reports BSS.
On the occasion of the Day, a discussion meeting was organized using virtual zoom apps from the district Social Service Office on Friday.
Deputy Director of the District Social Service Office Md. Imam Hasim presided over the discussion.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Moniruzzaman spoke as the chief guest while Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Tariqul Islam spoke as the special guest.
“Autistic people are not burden in their families, society or the state if they are groomed up properly,” Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman said while conducting a virtual meeting on the occasion of the day.
Sabina Sultana, Deputy Director, Department of Women’s Affairs, Md. Nurul Amin, Chairperson of NGO Coordinating Committee, Matinur Rahman, Member Secretary, Titas Mustafa, Director of Mathrubhumi Autism Academy, Executive Director of DMSS Mahbuba Begum, Anisur Rahman Bitton and Executive Director of NRDS, Sujan Kumar Mandal, among others, spoke on the occasion.
