The Australian High Commission here joined a special programme called ‘Music Buzz,’ organised by the US Embassy recently with talented Australian diplomats Amy Sheridan, James Dillon, Jane Hardy and Swedish Embassy’s Magdalena Skarp performing at the American Centre, Dhaka.
The diplomats movingly paid tribute to the anniversary of the ‘Concert for Bangladesh’ held in August in 1971 in Madison Square Garden, New York to raise international awareness and raise funds for refugees from Bangladesh during the Liberation War.
Australian High Commissioner Julia Niblett opened the music set, noting “It’s an absolute privilege to be here and support an activity that promotes peace and tolerance through music.”
Niblett thanked the American Center for inviting the Australian High Commission to participate in the wonderful event attended by young Bangladeshi music lovers.
The Australian diplomats played a number of classic Australian songs, including a soft rendition of the historic bush ballad ‘Waltzing Matilda’, often rated as Australia’s favourite song, as well as some contemporary songs by well-known Australian bands like the Waifs and Paul Kelly.
