Australian High Commissioner to Dhaka Greg Wilcock called on UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan at the latter’s office on Wednesday. Mostafizur Rahman, Senior Business Development Manager, Australian Trade Centre accompanied the High Commissioner (HC).
UGC Chairman and the Australian HC stressed on the need for establishing more academic and research collaboration amongst the universities of Bangladesh and Australia for internationalization of higher education and research.
They agreed that there are many areas in the higher education sectors where Bangladesh and Australia could work together to enhance human potentials and explore mutual benefits. Besides, quality development in higher education, exchange of students, cross border higher education and institutional collaboration came up for the discussion.
Australian High Commissioner informed the UGC Chairman that enrolment of students graduated from some private universities of Bangladesh in getting admitted into Australian University is under active consideration of the Australian Ministry of Education.
UGC Chairman observed that University Grants Commission of Bangladesh has been relentlessly working for improvement of quality of higher education in the country by establishing institutional quality assurance cell in the public and private universities. He further said that good connectivity with the foreign universities is a must for internationalization of higher education.
UGC Members – Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Abul Hashem, Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury and UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled, among others were present on the occasion.
