Australia, replying to Pakistan’s first innings total of 454, were 282-8 at tea on the third day of the opening Test in Dubai on Friday.
Mitchell Johnson was not out 22 and Steve O’Keefe on four as Australia still trail by 172 runs in the first innings.
David Warner hit a magnificent 133 but Pakistani spinners kept a tight leash to get eight wickets after Australia resumed on 113-0 at the beginning of the day.
Michael Clarke failed again, dismissed for 13. Chris Rogers (38), Alex Doolan (five) and Steven Smith (22) also fell before lunch.
Mitchell Marsh made 27 while Brad Haddin scored 22.
