Bangladesh scored 260 runs in the 1st innings against Australia on the 1st day of the rain interrupted 1st Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Sunday.
In reply, the visiting Australia were tottering at 18 for the loss of three wickets before the two umpires pocketted the bails.
Bangladesh faced an early debacle as they lost their first three wickets for Just 10 runs.
Opener Soumya Sarkar (8) was caught at the gully by Peter Handscomb off Pat Cummins.
One-down Imrul Kayes (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mathew Wade off Pat Cummins.
Second-down Sabbir Rahman ( 0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mathew Wade off Pat Cummins.
Later, opener Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan salvaged their team from disaster contributing together 155 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Tamim Iqbal was caught at the backward point by David Warner off Glenn Maxwell when the Tigers’ total was 165 for the loss of four wickets.
Tamim Iqbal hit a superb 71. His 144-ball innings had three sixers and five fours. It was Tamim Iqbal’s 23rd Test half century.
Then Shakib Al Hasan was caught at the slip by Steve Smith off Nathan Lyon when Bangladesh’s score was 188 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan knocked a splendid 84. His 133-ball innings included 11 fours. It was Shakib’s 35th Test half century.
After dismissal of Shakib Al Hasan, Captain Mushfiqur Rahim (18) was trapped leg before wicket by Ashton Agar when the hosts’ total was 198 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Nasir Hossain and Mehedi Hasan Miraz put on together 42 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Miraz (18) was caught at the short leg by Peter Handscomb off Nathan Lyon when Bangladesh’s score was 240 for the loss of seven wickets.
After departure of Miraz, Nasir Hossain was trapped leg before wicket by Ashton Agar when the home side’s total was 246 for the loss of eight wickets. Nasir scored 23 from 61 balls featuring three fours.
Number nine batsman Taijul Islam (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Nathan Lyon when the home team reached 246 for the loss of nine wickets.
Then Shafiul Islam (13) was caught at the mid-on by Josh Hazlewood off Ashton Agar when the hosts’ innings came to an end.
Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon grabbed three wickets each at the cost of 46, 63, 79 runs respectively.
But Australia faced an early jolt as opener David Warner (8) was trapped leg before wicket by magical Miraz when the Aussies score was just 9.
Then Usman Khawaja (1) was run out by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim when the visitors total was 14 for the loss of two wickets.
Nathan Lyon (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib Al Hasan before the bails were drawn for the first day play.
The 2nd day play will resume today at 10.00 am.
