Auspicious start for Bangladesh in WHL

Bangladesh got off to an auspicious start in the second edition of World Hockey League round-1 with a hard-fought 3-2 goals victory over touring Sri Lanka held on Friday at the Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in the city.
In the day’s match, Hasan Jubayed Niloy opened an account for Bangladesh early in the 4th minute with a field goal while Priyalanka restored the parity for Sri Lanka converting a penalty corner in the 13th minute.
However, Krishna put the host ahead converting a penalty stroke in the 22nd minute while Khorsed further widened the margin for Bangladesh also converting a penalty corner in the 27th minute.
Prialanka reduced the margin for the touring side scoring the second goal in the 31st minute.

Earlier, in the first edition in 2012, Bangladesh emerged champions in Round-1 beating Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. They were impressive in the second round too as they beat Fiji, Oman and China but exited after losses to India and Ireland.
