Bangladesh made an auspicios start in the Asian Central Zone Volleyball Championship when they came from behind and earned a hard-fought 3-1 sets victory over Maldives in the inaugural match at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.
Minister for Commerce Tofail Ahmed, MP inaugurated the volleyball competition by releasing the balloons as the chief guest while Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army Lieutenant General Mainul Islam and Managing Director of sponsor organisation Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited KS Tabrez were with him as special guests.
The foreign guests were: First Vice-President of Asian Volleyball Competition Essa Hamzah, President of Volleyball Federation of India Chaudhary Avadhes Kumar, President of Iran Volleyball Federation Davarzanil.
President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) Md Atiqul Islam, Senior Vice-President of BVF AH Aslam Sunny, Vice-President of BVF Mostafa Kamal, General Secretary of the Federation Ashiqur Rahman Miku, Assistant-Organising Committee of the Tournament Advocate Fazle Rabbi Babul were also present at the time.
Bangladesh, Asghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Maldives took part in the march past.
