Retired Squadron Leader Abdullah Al Mamun yesterday (Tuesday) testified in the August 21 grenade attack case as witness No. 133.
Judge Shahed Nur Uddin of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 recorded the depositions of Mamun, who was another former personal security assistant of the then Leader of the Opposition and the incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Earlier, on May 6, the defence councils cross-examined retired Major Md Tariqullah, another former personal security assistant of Sheikh Hasina.
Of the accused of the case, among others former
Minister and Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid’ former State Minister for Home Lutfozzaman Babor and Huji leader Mufti Abdul Hannan were produced to the court from the jail custody on the occasion. On the other hand, the accused who are on bail, including Khaleda Zia’s nephew retired Lt Commander Saiful Islam Duke, former IGPs Md Ashraful Huda, Shahidul Haque and Khoda Box Chowdhuty were present in the court.
The incident that occurred at a rally of Bangladesh Awami League at Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004 left 24 people including Ivey Rahman, wife of late President Zillur Rahman and about one hundred others were injured in the incident. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also injured in the grenade attack.
