Dhaka Customs House officials have arrested two people at with 230,500 US dollars Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport along.
The arrested are Bangladeshi national Mahmuda Firoz and Turkish national Mehmet Remji. Two cases have been filed under the Special Powers Act with the DMP Airport Police Station over the incident.
Airport Police Inspector (Investigation) Aslam Uddin confirmed this information on Thursday. He said that on Wednesday (June 1) evening and night, Dhaka Customs House arrested a Bangladeshi and a Turkish national on charges of smuggling dollars. Later, two cases were filed under the special law in this incident.
The detainees have been handed over to the police station and the case shows their arrest.
According to Dhaka Customs House sources, a passenger named Mahmuda Firoz, who had a Bangladeshi passport, was searched at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 6:30 pm on Wednesday and 30,500 US dollars was recovered from him.
Mahmoud Feroz was going to the United States, where he has two sons and daughters. He is a resident of New Market area in the capital.
In another raid at Dhaka Customs House, a Turkish national named Mehmet Remji was held along with 200,000 US dollars from the airport at 9:30 pm. He was later shown arrested after the case was filed.
