Miscreants tried to slaughter a local Awami League leader in Bijoynagar upazila on Sunday night.
The victim is Ashoke Roy Chowdhury, science and technology affairs secretary of upazila Awami League.
Officer-in-charge of Bijoynagar Police Station Ali Arsad said a group of criminals swooped on Ashoke at his shop at
Chandura Bazar Dak Bungalow crossing around 8pm and tried to slit his throat with a sharp weapon, leaving him injured. He was taken to Sadar Hospital, the OC said.
Locals caught one of the attackers named Joy Das, son of Nantu Das of Malaish village in Sarail upazila, and handed him over to police. However, the reason behind the attack could not be known immediately.
