Gafargaon, Correspondent :
An uncle has been accused of trying to rape a seventh grade student at Gafargaon in Mymensingh. The accused Jahangir Alam (30) is said to be the cousin of the student’s father. The student’s father said Jahangir had been on the run since the incident.
The schoolgirl’s father Ujjal Mia lodged a written complaint with the Pagla Police Station on Monday afternoon.
Accused Jahangir Alam’s house is in Kandi Namapara village of Mashakhali union under Pagla police station of Bari upazila. He is the binder of Kandigram Government Primary School. The victim’s house as well as the student is near the accused’s house.
According to the schoolgirl, her uncle Jahangir used to tease her almost every day on the streets and even around the house. On the day of the incident, she went to the toilet near her house around 7.30 pm. As soon as she came out of the toilet, the lustful Jahangir grabbed the student from behind and threw her on the ground and tried to rape her. Later, when the people of the house came forward shouting at the student, Jahangir fled.
Earlier, the incident took place on Tuesday night, November 18. Since the incident, the girl has been staying at her grandfather’s house in Charalgi Union of her upazila out of shame.
According to the girl’s father, the UP member of the local 8th ward has been holding us accountable since the incident. Now he says he will threaten Jahangir. So I was forced to complain to the police station.
UP member Emdadul said the girl is marriageable, so I pressed the accused Jahangir and reconciled the two parties.
“I have been informed of the incident from the education office,” said Arifun Nahar, headmaster (acting) of Kandigram Government Primary School. I have been instructed to send the accused binder to the education office.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Pagla Police Station Shahinuzzaman Khan said, “I have received a complaint.” If the incident is found to be true, there will be a case.
