Attempt to kill PM Convict put on remand

A Dhaka court yesterday put convict Azizul Haque Rana alias Shahnewaj alias Rumon, 44, on four days’ remand in the case lodged on the charge of attempt to kill Sheikh Hasina in Kotalipara of Gopalganj.
Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order yesterday.
Earlier, Investigation Officer and Police Inspector Mamun-ur-Rashid produced the accused in the court seeking a 10-day remand. After hearing, the court granted a four-day remand. However, no lawyer appeared in the court on behalf of the convict.
On Tuesday night, Police Counter Terrorism And Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested Azizul Haque from Khilkhet area in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations Department informed, Azizul Haque was included in the group, who wanted to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
through bomb explosion in Kotalipara area. Police filed a case against him with Khilkhet Police Station in this connection.
During police questioning Azizul Haque said they were active members and supporters of banned organization Horkatul Zihad Al Islami Bangladesh.
His other accomplices fled away from the spot.
