The attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam in Dinajpur was not just a simple case of theft. It was a pre-planned attack, claimed the Bangladesh Administration Service Association (BASA) in a press briefing on Saturday.
The organization claims that the incident might have been carried out by some diehard criminals to revenge failure in illegal lobbying.
Helaluddin Ahmed, President of the Bangladesh Administration Service Association and Senior Secretary of the Local Government, said this at a press conference in city’s BIAM Auditorium on Saturday afternoon.
“Some vested quarters are trying to divert the incident. The association believes that this is not a case of theft because the miscreants did not steal anything. This is a planned attack and many more might be involved with it,” Helaluddin Ahmed added.
UNO Wahida Khanam is an honest and courageous officer. She does not tolerate corruption in his office. The incident might have been carried out by vicious circles to avenge the failure of illegal lobbying. If the attack is properly investigated, the true event will be surfaced, he further said.
In the press briefings, Helaluddin also demanded the appointment of Battalion Ansar for the security of administrative offices across the country.
BASA President at the same time condemned the filing of two separate cases against Madaripur DC Dr Rahima Khatun and five others with the Madaripur Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Tuesday afternoon.
It was not supposed to be occurred. It is really very sorrowful and was not expected at all. If such case is filed more, how a DC will work freely and independently, Helaluddin further added.
Secretary General of BIAM and Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Sheikh Yusuf Harun was present at the time.
Miscreants launched the attack on UNO Wahida Khanam and her father freedom Fighter Omar Ali after entering UNO’s official residence on Wednesday night.
UNO was later admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with serious injuries. She was afterwards brought to Dhaka by helicopter for better treatment. She is currently undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neuroscience Hospital in the capital.
Following the incident, joint forces of RAB and police launched an investigation. On Thursday, Dinajpur DB police detained the night guard Palash for questioning.
