Attack on Shamim 3 more accused confess guilt

Court Correspondent :Three more accused of the case filed in connection with gun attack on Awami League’s Central Working Committee member Enamul Haque Shamim made confessions yesterday admitting their offence in the incident.The accused who made confessional statements on Sunday are: Monir Hossain, Mehedi Hasan and Md Harun. Magistrates Tashruzzaman, Waes Quruni Chowdhury and FM Ashiqur Rahman of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court respectively recorded the confessional statements of the accused. Besides, another court of Metropolitan Magistrate Ataul Haque placed accused Nur-e Alam of the case on a two-day remand when the Investigation Officer (IO) produced him again to his court with a seven-day remand plea.So far, four accused made confessions in the case Under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. On July 15, accused Najmul Haque Mithu had made confession to a Dhaka Court in the case.Meanwhile, on July 16, another court of Dhaka placed Dr MA Hannan Feroz, former Vice-Chancellor of Stamford University on a six-day remand. Dr Hannan, who is also the incumbent Chairman of the University’s Trustee Board was arrested from his residence from the city’s Dhanmondi area for his alleged involvement in the gun attack on Shamim. On June 19, Enamul Haque Shamim, who was also a former BCL chief, came under gun attack by a group of miscreants in front of Stamford University campus at Dhanmondi.On July 8, some members of RAB and Detective Branch (DB) arrested seven people, including two alleged masterminds, from the capital, Rajbari and Mymensingh for their alleged involvement in the gun attack.
