Members of law enforcement agencies arrested 10 people, including a ‘Khatib of a Mosque on charge of an assault on Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad at Dhaka Udyan in the city on Friday (June 10).
After the attack, OC was admitted to the Neuro Sciences Hospital in Agargaon with injuries. From there he was also transferred to Holy Family Hospital.
Sheikh Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Inspector (investigation) of Mohammadpur Police Station confirmed the matter to the media on Monday afternoon.
According to police, several hundred worshipers gathered in Dhaka Udyan area to protest the blasphemy remarks against the prophet Mohammad (SM) in India last Friday afternoon. At that time OC Abul Kalam Azad went to the spot and asked them to end the procession peacefully as soon as possible. After saying this, some youths attacked the OC from behind. After the incident, police detained 10 persons during drives in connection with the incident.
