Staff Reporter :BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade came under attack again in the city’s Fakirapool area on Tuesday evening when she was campaigning for the upcoming city polls. Khaleda Zia, however, got away unhurt but at least four members of her entourage were injured, police said. Motijheel Police Station Sub-Inspector Salah Uddin said that Khaleda was speaking at a rally standing at the door of her car near the Fakirapool kitchen market around 8:15pm, seeking votes for BNP-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South Mirza Abbas.At the same time, a group of people was holding a black flag rally near the gate of the kitchen market behind Khaleda’s motorcade. At one point, someone hit at her vehicles, the police official said. No one filed any general diary in this connection, the SI said. He said this at a press conference in its Central Office at Old Paltan on Tuesday. The convener of the pro-BNP forum alleged that the careless speeches of some ministers and AL’s top leaders provoked the AL men to attack on Kahleda’s motorcade. He said that the media reported that it was attack by AL men. But it was ridiculous that the PM branded it as ‘drama’.It could good if the government offered apology for the attack. He also urged the Chief Election Commissioner to ensure safety of the voter so that they can cast their vote smoothly and create good atmosphere for the candidates to go to the voters. Member Secretary of Adarsh Dhaka Andaolon and President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Sawkot Mahmud, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Kabi Abdul Hai Sikder, General Secretary Jahangir Alam Prodhan and former Secretary A N H Akhter Hossain were present, among others, at the press conference. Sawkot Mahmud said, “We are concerned over the attack on Khaleda’s motorcade. The Prime Minister and the some other ministers are responsible for the attack.” He urged the EC to set up close-circuit camera at all the polling centers to ensure congenial atmosphere and to transfer the OCs in the city. He demanded to stop arrest of the candidates before the elections. It may be mentioned that Khaleda’s motorcade came under attack at Kawran Bazar on Monday evening when she was campaigning for Tabith Awal, the BNP-supported mayor candidate for Dhaka North Corporation.
