Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University and Convener of ‘Adarsh Dhaka Andolon’ Professor Emajuddin Ahmed on Tuesday said the attack on Khaleda Zia’s motorcade was aimed at assassinating her (Khaleda).
“The attack was planned to kill Khaleda. Bullets were fired at the part of the vehicle where Khaleda was sitting. Luckily, it was a bullet-proof vehicle,” said Emajuddin Ahmed. He said this at a press conference in its Central Office at Old Paltan on Tuesday.
The convener of the pro-BNP forum alleged that the careless speeches of some ministers and AL’s top leaders provoked the AL men to attack on Kahleda’s motorcade.
He said that the media reported that it was attack by AL men. But it was ridiculous that the PM branded it as ‘drama’.It could good if the government offered apology for the attack.
He also urged the Chief Election Commissioner to ensure safety of the voter so that they can cast their vote smoothly and create good atmosphere for the candidates to go to the voters.
Member Secretary of Adarsh Dhaka Andaolon and President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Sawkot Mahmud, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Kabi Abdul Hai Sikder, General Secretary Jahangir Alam Prodhan and former Secretary A N H Akhter Hossain were present, among others, at the press conference.
Sawkot Mahmud said, “We are concerned over the attack on Khaleda’s motorcade. The Prime Minister and the some other ministers are responsible for the attack.”
He urged the EC to set up close-circuit camera at all the polling centers to ensure congenial atmosphere and to transfer the OCs in the city. He demanded to stop arrest of the candidates before the elections.
It may be mentioned that Khaleda’s motorcade came under attack at Kawran Bazar on Monday evening when she was campaigning for Tabith Awal, the BNP-supported mayor candidate for Dhaka North Corporation.
