Attack on DNCC mayor candidate Mahi B Chy

Mahi B Chowdhury, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls, was injured when unknown miscreants attacked his car in Tejgaon area in the early hour of Sunday.
Ashfa Haque Lopa, wife of Mahi, and driver Shahid Mandol were also received injuries in the attack, said Jahangir Alam, Chief Coordinator of Mahi’s election campaign.
Jahangir said a group of people numbering about eight to ten swooped on his car with sticks when he along with his wife was returning home after taking fuel from City Filling Station beside BG press around 2:00am.
As the attackers smashed the windshield of his car, the broken pieces of glasses hit Mahi’s hand and eye, Jahangir said. The driver sped up and drove the car to the United Hospital, he added.
After receiving treatment at the hospital, Mahi, also son of former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, returned home around 8:00am.
Mahi said that the miscreants also rebuked him saying: “Now we have fulfilled your desire to contest in the election.”
“It is the responsibility of the government and election commission to ensure the safety of the aspirants,” Mahi said.
A general dairy was filed in this connection with Tejgaon Police Station around 6:00am, Jahangir said.
Mahi will continued his electioneering yesterday despite the attack, his chief coordinator said adding that there was no question to quit electoral race.
Meanwhile, at least eight people, including a rebel councillor candidate of Awami League for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls, were injured in an attack allegedly by the supporters of AL-backed candidate in city’s Jatrabari area yesdterday.
Among the injured, rebel AL councillor Fakrul Islam Murad, 40, also president of ward No. 50 unit of Jubo League, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Hospital sources said some supporters of AL-backed councillor candidate Sayem Khandakar attacked Murad and his supporters when they gathered at the camp office of the polls in the area at about 12:30 am, leaving eight people, including Murad injured.
The elections to DNCC scheduled to be held on April 28.
