At least 30 students of different private universities were injured in an attack on Airport Road at Kakoli intersection on Sunday morning allegedly by some students of Titumir Govt. College during their demonstrations against the imposition VAT on their tuition fees. Witnesses said, the private university students gathered at the intersection around 10:30am to stage demonstrations against the VAT, halting vehicular movement on the road.
Three buses coming from Uttara, carrying Titumir College students, got stuck on the road around 11:30am due to the blockade.
At one stage, a group of students of the college equipped with sticks got down from a bus and attacked the protesters, leaving at least 30 injured. The protesters alleged that the police present there were playing the role of silent spectators as they did not come forward to help the students.
