Attack, arrest of Sheaf of Paddy campaigners continue

The firing, attacking and arresting of the Sheaf of Paddy campaigners continued in last few days by violating the instructions of the Election Commission (EC).
Some ruling party candidates, leaders and supporters have already carried attacks after attacks on Oikyofront and BNP campaigners and their electoral offices as well as houses and other establishments.
They also gave open threats to BNP men in order to win the polls to be held on December 30.
Awami League (AL) leaders and activists have fired on dozens of BNP candidates and supporters across the country, report our district correspondents quoting witness and Police.
The government backed campaigners torched and vandalized over one hundred houses, polls offices and others establishments, they reported.
In the meantime, the law enforcing agencies have arrested several thousands leaders, activists  
and campaigners of Sheaf of Paddy based on lists of the ruling party’s after declaring the polls schedule.
The BNP men also alleged that most of leaders and activists were arrested without cases and legal cause as per the demands of the ruling party men.
In Chadpur, BNP men on Monday gherao Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station as police arrested district BNP Joint-Convener Advocate Solim Ullah and BNP MP candidate Sheikh Farid Ahmed alias Manik.
Police also arrested 10 BNP men from the gherao program.
In Sunamganj, BNP’s Sunamganj-4 candidate (Sadar, Biswamvopur) Fazul Haq Asfia on Monday claimed that police continued the arrest of the campaigners without any case or cause.
In Narsingdi, Police on Monday created bar on the campaign of BNP leader Dr Moin Khan while the Jubo League men attacked the campaigners just in front of the office of the Palsah Upazila Nirbahi (UNO).
In Noakhali, at least three people were injured in an attack on BNP leader Moudud Ahmed’s motorcade during an election campaign at Charkakra union’s Notun Bazar in Companyganj on Monday.
The injured have been identified as Ashraf, Raquib, Belayet, Afsar Uddin, and Md Rakib.
Moudud, who is contesting the 11th general election for Noakhali-5, blamed Chhatra League for the attack.
Besides, BCL men fired to target the BNP leader Joynul Abedin Farooq while he was campaigning at Kablipur Union in Senbagh in the afternoon.
Earlier, his motorcade was attacked by the BCL men Noakhali-2 constituency on December 16.
In Natore, BNP candidate of Natore-2 Sabina Yasmin Chhobi came under attack once again allegedly by ruling party men while campaigning in Tebaria area of Natore town on Monday afternoon.
Five supporters of Chhobi were injured in the attack around 5:30pm in Tebaria Hat area, our correspondent reports from the spot, said Abul Hasnat, additional superintendent of police of Natore circle.
In Nilphamari, the AL’s MP candidate for the Nilphamari-3 constituency (Jaldhaka) Major (Rtd) Rana Mohammad Sohel on Sunday threatened the people in a electoral rally that he would win in the election at any cost as he managed the all administrations, including election related officers.
Besides, the detective police arrested six persons without any case or arrest warrant order from Jaldhak upazial on Sunday night.
In Dhaka, BNP’s candidate for Dhaka-9, Afroza Abbas, and her supporters came under attack again yesterday allegedly by AL men while conducting electioneering in the capital’s Maniknagar area on Sunday.
Elsewhere in Chattogram, BNP candidate for Chattogram-2, Azim Ullah Bahar, and 14 others were injured in an attack allegedly by AL men at Tokirhat area under Fatikchhari upazila yesterday.
In Barishal, BNP candidate for Barishal-5, Mojibor Rahman Sarwar, alleged that the ruling party and police were preventing him from electioneering and threatening the BNP men to leave the constituency.
Barishal’s Superintendent of Police SM Saiful Islam denied the allegation.
In Chattogram, two BNP candidates alleged that police were implicating their activists in “false cases” and harassing BNP men continuously.
The BNP candidate for Chattogram-8, Abu Sufian, and for Chattogram-12, Enamul Haque, came up with the allegations in separate press conferences at Chattogram Press Club.
