Staff Reporter :
The member states of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) on Tuesday urged the international community to take immediate action to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
It also condemned the atrocities, oppression, ethnic cleansing, displacement and all other gross violations of human rights, including the loss of innocent lives of Rohingya people in Rakhine, Myanmar by its security forces.
The CPA also urged Myanmar to stop the violence and practice of ethnic cleansing in Rakhine immediately, unconditionally and indefinitely, and to ensure the sustainable return of all the forcibly displaced Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh and other countries to their home in Myanmar at the earliest.
The CPA adopted a consensus and issued a statement in this regard during concluding session of the 63rd general assembly at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.
The participants in the conference have reached the consensus on issuance of the statement only, as it could not pass any resolution on Rohingya crisis.
To pass a resolution, a notice will have to be submitted at least 60 days before beginning of the conference as per the rules of CPA, its outgoing Chairperson Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said today.
