ATM booth guard found dead

The guard of an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) booth in the city’s Baridhara area was found dead inside the booth on Monday morning.
The deceased Shamim, 24, was found with his head bashed in a booth of the Jamuna Bank, below the Hatil Furniture showroom of the same building, J block area of Baridhara under Pragati Sarani, said Bilkis Akther, Sub-Inspector SI (of Bhatara Police Station). On information, police recovered unconscious body of Shamim around 6:15am and sent it to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors declared he died few hours ago.
Shamim used to sleep inside the booth, said the police official.
He was an employee of Elite Security Service, she said.
It is suspected that he was killed some time in the night, said Bilkis Akther. The CCTV was found broken, but police are trying to recover the footage.
However, no cash was reportedly stolen from the vault, she said.
“A case is yet to be filed regarding this matter. We have notified the bank authorities regarding the incident. Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation,” she added.
“I went there after hearing a lot of screaming in the area. I saw him lying there in a pool of blood. His body was covered with a blanket,” said Billal Hossain, a Ssecurity Guard of a nearby building.
Mohammad Ali, a night checker of the security service said, “I went around 1:30am and talked to him. Everything was fine. I came back after signing a sheet. He was possibly killed some time after that.”
Shamim’s body was first found by security guard, Waliullah, who was supposed to take over the duty charges from Shamim after 6:00am.
“He (Shamim) never told any of us about any threats or such,” said Ali.
