Staff Reporter: The ruling Awami League on Sunday announced the names of Md. Atiqul Islam and Fazle Noor Taposh as its mayoral candidates respectively for the upcoming elections to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names after an emergency meeting of AL Local Government Election Nomination Board held at the political office of the party President Sheikh Hasina in Dhanmondi in the capital.
The two cities election will be held on January 30 in 2020.
According to the EC, the two city corporations have over 54.02 lakh voters. Among them 30.35 lakh are in DNCC and 23.67 lakh in DSCC.
On the day in DNCC, 54 ward councilors and 18 reserved women councilors also to be elected. Besides, in DSCC, 75 ward councilors and 25 reserved women councilors will be elected.
