Meanwhile, police detained at least 20 leaders and activists of BNP.
The Mahanagar Chhatra League organized a protest rally at Shahid Hadith Park in front of the Awami League office on Thursday afternoon.
On the other hand, the metropolitan and district BNP organized a rally in front of the BNP office at KD Ghosh Road at 3 pm on Thursday.
According to the eyewitnesses, after the rally at BCL rally marched towards marched towards Picture Palace. On the other hand, BNP activists chased the police from a rally on KD Ghosh Road. At that time the police retreated and went towards the Picture Palace intersection. Later, the police and BCL men jointly chased the BNP workers. Besides, another group of Juba League chased the BNP workers from the south side of KD Ghosh Road.
At that time, the whole area turned into a battlefield leaving at least 50 leaders and activists of BCL and BNP injured. Police fired 15-20 rounds of tear gas to bring the situation under control.
